Violence Escalating in Turkey

Jim is hard at work over at TKS today because the violence in Turkey is escalating. This morning, somone bombed a cafe in Instanbul that’s frequented by Turkish police.

It seems with each passing day, the situation gets worse instead of better. Perhaps things will calm down now that the U.S. has outed Syria and Iran for instigating the riots. It’s impossible to know, but we can hope.

Jim: I’m not so sure that this is just going to burn itself out, the way the French “urban youths” did a few months ago. If you’re Syria and/or Iran, do you gain more by stopping, not wanting to poke America and Europe with a stick anymore? Or do you double down, as they’re your enemies, and there’s no advantage to be gained from letting up?

The other thing that is depressing is that not every agitator and protester out there can be on the Syrian/Iranian take. there are a LOT of folks out there who were game for this kind of violent offensive — plenty of imams willing to take the message and run with it, plenty of ordinary folks willing to demonstrate and hold the threatening placards. And tomorrow could very well be worse, as tomorrow’s prayer day.

As I mentioned to Michelle Malkin, somebody put a bomb in an Istanbul cafe frequently used by the city’s riot cops. Yeah, the same riot cops protecting the Danish consulate there a few days ago. Sure looks to me like somebody’s trying to send a message: ‘Don’t prevent us from reaching the Consulate next time.’

Cam: I’m scheduled to speak with Akir Khan from Muslims for America later this afternoon (I’m out at CPAC). I’m sure the subject will come up. In the meantime, stay safe.
