Senator Allen Concedes
By: Marshall Manson on November 9, 2006 - 3:13 pm

Senator George Allen conceded this afternoon, ending one of the ugliest campaigns in memory with a touch of class. Rather than forcing the Commonwealth of Virginia and the nation through an extended recount fight, he acknowledged his defeat.

Senator Allen has given much of his life to serving Virginia. As Delegate, Congressman, Governor and U.S. Senator, he’s made a huge difference for Virginia families. He will be missed.

And most of all, his concession demonstrated honor in a time when that trait is sorely lacking.

UPDATE: Senator Allen confirmed my judgement in his remarks, saying that he didn’t want to protract the fight because it wouldn’t be good for Virginia.
