My office is just a block from the route down which the motorcade carried President Ford to the National Cathedral this morning. Krempasky and I along with Harrell, Tristan and another colleague walked over and took it in. Krempasky captures it better than I ever could:
Along with thousands of well-wishers, I stood on the corner of 20th and Eye Street and watched the funeral procession for President Ford from the Capitol Building to the National Cathedral. Hundreds of police officers standing at attention, taking their last opportunity to salute our 38th President. While they passed at a good pace, and the procession had come and gone in just a couple minutes — it’s the kind of thing that makes you grateful to live in DC.
It was a solemn moment, and one that comes perhaps a handful of times in any lifetime. I was glad I took the time.
