Look Kids. Big Ben! Parliament!
By: Marshall Manson on March 11, 2007 - 11:58 am

I’ve been to London several times. It’s one of my favorite cities in the world. But this is the first time I’ve been here for an actual, honest to goodness sunny day. So I’m sharing the photos.

This one, of course, is neither Big Ben nor Parliament. And if Chevy Chase had gotten stuck in this traffic circle, he would have been in big trouble. Anyone want to play guess the photo? First correct answer spurs me to post a couple of more photos designed to underscore the fact that I am in London and, well, you’re not. Put your guesses in the comments.

UPDATE: Commenter David has it right. It’s Buckingham Palace. And the shot was, indeed, taken through the iron fence. So here are a couple of additional images from my day on the town yesterday.

This is one of my favorite spots in London. It’s Admiralty Arch. Sitting adjacent to Trafalgar Square, it’s the entrance to “The Mall,” the avenue which leads through St. James Park to Buckingham Palace. But more importantly, it’ connected to the Admiralty building, the headquarters from which the Royal Navy kept watch over the globe for three centuries.

If you can figure out where this one was taken, you really do win the gold star. Indeed, unless you’ve been to London in the last few weeks, and happen to visit the Imperial War Museum, you couldn’t possibly have a clue. But the museum has an outstanding feature going right now about animals in war. And this dog, parachuting into battle, was but one of the amazing elements of the exhibit. BTW, if you haven’t been to the Imperial War Museum, I strongly recommend it for your next visit to London.

You can’t fool me. That building isn’t in London at all. It’s the Treasury building, at 15th and Pennsylvania.

    You big fooler.

That would be Buckingham Palace — probably shot with the camera’s lens peeking through the iron fence.

If memory serves, there’s a GIANT traffic circle right in front of the palace, in the middle of which sits the Victoria Memorial (a great gold-painted ego trip).

Do I at least win a (real fur) Busby?
