Blogging from Brussels

So, I’m in Brussels today, and I’ve been trying to think of something interesting to say about it. But I can’t think of anything. It’s not there isn’t anything interesting about the city. I’m certain there is. I just haven’t had a chance to see any of it.

I did travel from London to Brussels last night via the Chunnel, and that was pretty cool. Unfortunately, we did it in the dark, so I didn’t really see anything noteworthy, nor, indeed, anything at all. Hopefully, I’ll get to experience some sort of view on my return to London on Thursday.

I was able to take a short walk around Brussels this morning, and it seems like a lovely city. There was a building nearby, up the hill from my firm’s local office, that looked like an old palace. But I didn’t have time to walk across and get the details. (Luckily for me, Google Earth informs me that it was, in fact, the Royal Palace of Belgium. So that’s pretty cool.) Also, my hotel is directly across the street from the Berlaymont building — the primary home of the European Commission. It’s an odd building, shaped like a star, but it’s a pretty good representation of the EU aspires to be — new, sleak, modern and forward thinking.

I haven’t taken any pictures in Brussels as yet, but if I can get out this afternoon before the sun goes down, I’ll try to walk back up to that palace and snap a few.
