Support Bill Ayers? Not On Your Life

Seems like there’s this petition going around, asking educators to sign a letter in support of Bill Ayers. You know, the unrepentant terrorist and leader of the Weather Underground poor helpless English professor being verbally tormented by those evil conservatives who have a problem with bomb building.

Only (and here’s where it gets so infuriating that you want to start homeschooling not only your kids, but random neighborhood kids as well) these educators aren’t doing a lot of educating about Ayers himself. In fact, this is how they describe Bill’s activities in the late 60’s and 70’s.

It’s true that Professor Ayers participated passionately in the civil rights and antiwar movements of the 1960s, as did hundreds of thousands of Americans. His participation in political activity 40 years ago is history; what is most relevant now is his continued engagement in progressive causes, and his exemplary contribution—including publishing 16 books— to the field of education.

You know, it doesn’t matter that Mary Kay Letourneau liked to have sex with little kids. That was a long time ago. And besides, she’d make a really good substitute teacher.

Bill Ayers and the Weather Underground declared war on the United States. They tried to kill people. His wife may have very well killed a police officer (according to an FBI informant, she was the one who built the bomb that killed San Francisco police officer Brian McDonnell). If you can’t face that fact and deal with it, I think your “growth of knowledge, insight, and understanding” may be severely lacking.

By the way, I love how the site asks educators to sign their name to a letter… yet the website itself has been set up anonymously. Way to take the same stand you’re asking your colleagues to take!

A terrorist who has said he does not want to exclude the option of bombing people again even as he was being interviewed with footage of the world trade center still burning was being shown to him.

I said it in Talk Backs and I’ll say it again why is this national security threat not in prison? Even when you look at the virtues supposedly embodied by him it still shows a one sided aspect and really what kind of message is sent to Terrorists around the world with him free and being painted as a Role Model.

Oh AlQueda just get a few more Americans to make a US Splinter group that is self sustaining and you won’t have any more troubles.

What is it with people wanting to claim past actions are pointless? I mean between trying to get Voters to register using TI a convicted felon who can’t vote. Obama calling the NRA liars because they point out more than what was said on the campaign trail. And now Bill Ayers supposedly cleaner than many priests because he’s a teacher.

Just how blind are some people?

I’ve always found that the best teachers do it mostly by example. I don’t suppose that would work for Ayers. Anyway, he had a name of his own, and he chose to make it the name of a terrorist bombmaker.

He can’t have my name for any reason.

As a graduate of the University of San Francisco, I am not pleased to see that one of the professors signed the petition. It sure makes the decision to cease future donations an easy one!
