Baby acne is though to be caused by the mothers’ hormones which pass through the placenta and are present in the baby’s sebaceous glands. Baby acne usually occurs on the baby’s cheeks, forehead, chin, and even the back.  Baby acne may become more pronounced when your baby is hot or fussy, or if his skin is irritated. While baby acne is not a serious condition, it can cause a lot of worry for a new mom or dad.

Treating baby acne is more about what you should not do rather than what you should do.  While it is possible to reduce the appearance of baby acne with make up, it is not advisable. Using a mild baby soap and warm water will help treat baby acne.  Keep the affected area clean and dry because dry face will help prevent baby acne or stop it from becoming more irritated. To avoid irritating the area of skin affected by the baby acne, it is important not to launder the washcloth in harsh detergent.

Most of the time the baby acne will just go away on its own and no treatment is necessary. You may take some comfort in knowing that almost a third of babies develop baby acne, and most of them have beautiful baby skin and smiling faces in time for their six-month picture. Enjoy this time with your baby and don’t worry too much about the baby acne.

As mentioned, you will find that baby acne disappears without any acne treatment, but if you are worried about the condition, or it lasts for longer than three months, you can consult with your doctor. However, with severe cases of baby acne, the blemishes may become so swollen and inflamed that they cause or add to your baby’s fussiness.
