A lot of people experience severe pain in the neck and shoulder. Movement of the neck may have the pain worsen. Spondylosis and radiculopathy are two common causes of neck pain. Cervical spondylosis is caused by degenerative changes in the vertebrae and intervertebral discs that occur as a result of ageing, injury or rheumatoid disease. The patient feels neck pain that may spread to the base of the skull and shoulders or spread down an arm to a hand or fingers.
On cervical radiculopathy, the neck pain may spread out into arm and the patients may have weakness or numbness in the arm as well. These symptoms will bother the patient’s activities. For some cases the symptoms can not be relieved by taking analgesic drugs. The doctors probably will suggest then to go for cervical surgery.
Unfortunately, the surgery procedure has very high cost and potential risk. People always try to discover a new method for relieving the neck pain on spondylosis or radiculopathy cases. Nowadays the patients have cervical collar or neck brace as an option to relief the symptoms of cervical spondylosis or radiculopathy. In a study, the patients that were assigned to surgery refused the procedure because they have felt better after using neck brace.
