Rosacea (acne rosacea) is a chronic inflammatory disorder characterized by facial flushing, telangiectasias, erythema, papules, pustules, and in severe cases, rhinophyma. It is believed to affect more than 13 million Americans. Acne Rosacea usually begins between the ages of thirty and fifty years of age, but can occur at any age. Unlike common acne cases, blackheads and whiteheads are almost never present in acne rosacea.
Treating acne rosacea is more difficult than common acne disorder. But today with the progress of science and technology, treatment for acne rosacea is available. Treatment options of acne rosacea depend on the severity and extent of the symptoms. You may choose several medical treatments include antibacterial washes, topical creams, antibiotic pills, lasers, pulsed-light therapies, photodynamic therapy, and isotretinoin.
Mild may not necessarily require special treatment. We can relieve acne rosacea flare-ups with self-care methods like avoiding harsh products. More resistant cases may require a combination method, using several of the treatments at the same time.
The skin with acne rosacea tends to be more sensitive and easily irritated than that of common acne. The patient should seek a physician’s advice before using OTC acne treatment and medications, because inappropriate products can essentially irritate skin and make the condition worse. It would be wise to consult with a dermatologist in order to determine which treatment product is best for you.
Oral antibiotics are also commonly prescribed to patients with moderate rosacea. Oral and topical antibiotic rosacea treatments for adult acne rosacea can work for up to several months before the bacteria become immune to the antibiotic, causing the antibiotic to lose its effectiveness. So, this treatment should be supervised by doctors.
You may consider the advanced treatment for rosacea like pulsed-light therapies, photodynamic therapy. Risk, benefits, and alternatives should be reviewed with your physician prior to treatment. Then choose the professional dermatologist to do the procedure on your skin.
