Since severe sunburns before the age of 18 increase your risk of cancer, sunblock is vital for people of all ages. Sunblocks are different from sunscreens. Sunblocks form a physical barrier to the sun: they are opaque creams or pastes that prevent virtually all light from entering the skin by reflecting and scattering UV rays.
Most people believe that sunblock and sunscreen are the names of the same product which helps in protecting the skin from the sun’s UV rays. However, contrary to popular belief, sunblock and sunscreen are the names of two different products and protects the skin from the sun in different ways.
Examples of ingredients in sunblocks are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Some new sunblocks also stop UVA exposure, but only the opaque zinc oxide and titanium dioxide offer total protection by blocking all light. A good sunblock should work to protect against both UVA and UVB rays. It does not have an aroma and is a non-greasy formula, so that it doesn’t make your skin greasy and sticky to touch.
People always want to know is it true that sunblock with SPF 30 work better than SPF 15 sunblock? They also wanted to know if higher priced sunblock works better than lower priced sunblock of the same SPF. This is crucial and requires close ingredient label reading when buying a new-to-you brand. If you find difficulties when selecting the right sunblock for your skin please discuss it with your dermatologist.
